Space is sound and sound is space. tuning into this relationship is a path to hidden worlds and fully meeting the present. Finding the self through sound is a lifelong journey.

Lou’s work sits in a constant relay between melody making and creating sonic worlds. For the last 7 years, he has worked professionally as an artist and sound editor, working primarily with immersive audio installations. He is a self-described sound-person, taking a molecular approach to working with sound. His masters research in soundscape ecology studied links between soundscape and listening positionally, openning up wider questions about place, self, attention and ecosystem which he still explores in his practice. This curiosity has led Lou to recent work in audio archiving, namely with analog formats such as reel to reel.

The other branch of Lou’s sound endeavours involve his work as a professional musician. Lou is one of the creative forces behind Montreal indie-rock band Museums. He is also known by his musical moniker Man Happens, which released a debut album in 2025. This is the other end of the spectrum of Lou’s sound creation – somewhere closer to songwriting than sonic world shaping. One feeds the other.

Lou’s soundscape projects have been supported via multiple funds from, among others, the Daniel Fiest Memorial Scholarship for sound research, Programme jeunes volontaires, as well as creation residencies and workshops through festival Grenache, and festival Akousma. Whether through more traditional music formats, or experimenting with chimes, hydrophones or field recording, Lou is focused on space, sound, memory and the invisible subconscious links that bind humans and non-humans. This involves ultra-acoustic recording methods such as contact micing.
